Parade and party is on Wednesday, October 31
Parade starts at 1:15
Party follows in our classroom
Costumes are to be brought in with your child on Wednesday
Students cannot wear their costumes to school
Remember, we only have a short time to change and we will be changing in the classroom (one class for boys, another for girls). Please make sure their costumes are suitable for this. Trips to the bathroom are not allowed
No weapons of any kind are allowed
Does anyone have a Home Depot connection? Our class is looking for paint stirrers to use in our classroom library and smocks to hang on the back of student desks to organize loose ends. The book socks we are currently using are creating more of a headache than they are worth.
MATH
Students will take the chapter 2 test on Tuesday, October 16. We will then move into chapter 3 which covers front-end estimation; add with regrouping; and four-digit addition. I've noticed there are a few instances in which students are confused because parents are showing them to do something different than we did in class. This IS NOT to say you are incorrect in what you are showing your child, however, because our text shows specific strategies which will also show up on the tests, I am going to require student journals to come home each night. You will find each lesson we discuss in class in these journals which will show the ways certain concepts are taught. Thank you so much for the time you spend at home in preparing your child for math. Our class is doing an OUTSTANDING job in all areas!!
READING
In addition to inferring, which we will continue practicing throughout the year, we will be using the predicting strategy this week as we read Cliffhanger in our reading series. We will also explore cause and effect. A vocabulary log will come home on Tuesday. Students will already have the definitions to add to this log, but they will have to add a sentence and picture. The class will add the synonyms and antonyms together. Please make sure your child is reviewing these words regularly. They will have a vocab test on these words on Tuesday, October 23.
ENGLISH
We are going to delve into descriptive writing with a persuasive flare as we prepare to write a haunted house story. The interesting part? We are trying to sell our haunted houses! Both forms of writing provide great preparation for the writing expected by the state.
