Week of February 4, 2013

Note to parents:

Hi! My name is Nicole Dodoer (Ms. Dodoer).
I am a student at Lewis University majoring in Elementary Education.
Ms. Stetka is my mentor teacher for the semester. I have been working with her for the past four weeks, and I will be here until May. I am currently teaching math and reading. I will soon be teaching all of the subjects. I am excited to continue working with the students and Ms. Stetka. Until further notice I will be updating the blog.

Week in a nut shell:

Monday morning we will attend an assembly called "Meet the Lincoln's".
Tuesday at 10 a.m. we will attend the district spelling bee!

Thursday is the 100th day of school!

MATH

We will continue our unit on measurement. Our focus will be changing to metric units. Students need to practice renaming units. A timed division test will be given on Friday (4's). Students should also be practicing their division facts daily.

READING

We will begin reading the story "Seal Surfer". Students will focus on making text-to-self connections while we read. Vocabulary from the story has been discussed, and students will be given more practice with the words. A vocabulary and comprehension test will be given after we complete the story.

ENGLISH

We will continue working with adjectives and adverbs. A test will be given the following week.

SPELLING

There will be no spelling test this week. Instead, our focus will be on prefixes and suffixes. Ms. Stetka and I have some fun hands-on activities planned for the students. We will also discuss synonyms and antonyms.

SCIENCE

We will begin exploring sound.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will be exploring cultures and customs. Please view the culture day hand out that was sent home today.
Your help in this project will be greatly appreciated!
