Week of March 19, 2012

A huge THANK YOU to the parents who sent in snacks for our class to enjoy during the ISAT tests. Students worked VERY hard on these tests and appreciated the pick-me-up!

This is our last week before Spring Break! It's amazing how quickly our year is going. My students have shown such progress and make me proud every single day. I hope all of you get to spend some quality time over the week we have no school.

Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:

MATH

Students will begin exploring fractions in greater depth this week. In addition, we will be starting our division facts. My class will be expected to write fact families for an assigned number 3 times nightly. It is my goal to have our facts (multiplication and division) down before they leave third grade. Your continued support at home is GREATLY appreciated!!

READING

Our class will focus on nonfiction text (Science and Social Studies books) over the next couple weeks. We will summarize and identify main ideas. In addition, we will be practicing our fluency with various reader's theater scripts. Each student will also begin choosing their own vocabulary words from their Good Fit Books. They will learn the definition, find a synonym and antonym, and draw a picture to show the meaning of the word. Then they will be quizzed orally to determine if they have actually learned the word's meaning.

SPELLING

We are back to our normal spelling routine. Lesson 17 pretest is on Monday with the final test and homework due on Friday.

SOCIAL STUDIES

There will be a quiz on Wednesday. Study guides went home indicating exactly what is on the quiz.

SCIENCE

We are quickly moving through our chapter on space. There are fun projects planned this week, too!

Enjoy this beautiful weather! Happy St. Patrick's Day!
