Week of January 26

Here is the upcoming week in a nutshell:

Homeroom

In Social Studies, we will continue learning about the Revolutionary War. In particular, we will be looking at the Battles of Lexington and Concord. In addition, we will be starting a Revolutionary War Diary. In Science, our fun unit on sound began last week. We will be practicing our outlining skills by pulling the main idea and supporting ideas out of our Science text. We will have some more fun activities to coincide with this, including a presentation by Mr. Tedeschi!

Math

We started fraction concepts last week and will continue throughout this week. In particular, we will be working with equivalent fractions and simplest form. A quiz is scheduled on Wednesday, January 28 to assess the first three lessons of chapter 12. We will then learn mixed numbers and how to compare and order fractions.

Language Arts

We will continue with The Wish Giver in reading. We are paying particular attention to clarifying and checking for understanding as we read this novel. Our book clubs have been meeting to discuss and will continue to do so throughout the book. Also, during our language arts block, we will be working with several prompts to practice our introduction and concluding paragraphs on expository and persuasive essays. The February vocabulary tests will begin on February 2; how's your child's progress?

Have a great week!
