Week of January 19

We did it!! Iowa week is over! Despite the arctic temperatures, students did an excellent job arriving promptly each day. Way to go!

There is no school on Monday, January 19 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I can only imagine how proud he would be of our new president who will be inaugurated the following day, Tuesday, January 20. Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue to school on Tuesday.

Please remember that the field trip permission slips and payment for Naper Settlement are due on Friday, January 23.

Here is the upcoming week in a nutshell:

Homeroom
Our Too Good For Drugs program began last week and we will continue to meet with Officer K. for the next 9 weeks.
In Social Studies, we finished up sequencing the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea party and will be moving on to take the stance of either a patriot or loyalist.
In Science, we will be testing on Chapter 15 on Wednesday, January 21. On that day, we will also conduct our first round of the Spelling Bee to qualify two students to participate in the grade-level Bee.
Math
My group will finish chapter 11 with prime and composite numbers, review, and then quiz on Thursday, January 22.
Language Arts
In English, we are going to finish Chapter 3 on Verbs and test on Friday, January 23. We got a little backed up due to the Iowas. We will also be continuing with persuasive writing. This will lead into expository writing.
We will continue reading The Wish Giver in Reading, focusing on the clarify strategy, vocabulary and summarizing.
The test in Spelling will be on Lesson 16.
Stay warm! Have a great 3-day weekend!
