WEEK OF 2/2-2/6

Important Dates:

Friday 2/6 - "Matter Matters" in school field trip
Wednesday 2/11 - Culture Day and Early Dismissal
Thursday 2/12 - Valentine's Day party
Friday 2/13 and Monday 2/16 - No school

Math:

In this upcoming week, we will continue to dive deeper into our division unit. Our unit test will be on Thursday, February 5th.

Spelling: List 17

Monday - Pretest; Homework: Cursive worksheet
Tuesday - Homework: Non-challenge complete ABC order, Challenge complete one challenge activity
Wednesday - Homework: Non-challenge complete 10 sentences, Challenge complete one challenge activity
Thursday - Prepare for the final test
Friday - Final test for list 17

Social Studies:

We have just begun Chapter 3 - People Move From Place to Place. In this unit we will learn about why people move from one place to another as well as what it may be like to move to a new community with a different culture. As a part of this unit, we will be celebrating Culture Day. Each student will have the opportunity to share part of their ethnic background and part of their culture with their classmates. Our Culture Day presentations will begin on February 11th. We are all very excited to learn more about many different cultures!

Science:

We will continue or work on Chapter 11 (Matter). This week we will continue our focus on Lesson 3 - How Does Matter Change? Our lesson 3 open book quiz will be on Tuesday, February 3rd. Our Chapter 11 test will be on Friday, February 6th.

Language Arts:

We will continue our Traditions Unit. This week we will continue our work with the story When Lightning Comes in a Jar by Patricia Polacco. We will also continue our focus on verbs and prefixes/suffixes.

Other News:

This week we had both our classroom and our 3rd grade spelling bees. Congratulations to Lily Kelliher and Maija Flannery for winning our classroom spelling bee! You both did an excellent job representing our class in the 3rd grade spelling bee. Congratulations also to the 3rd grade spelling bee winner Grace Rerucha, and runner up Maija Flannery! Good luck in our district spelling bee, we're all rooting for you!

Today we had our PRIDE assembly for the month of January. Congratulations to Sophia Johnson for receiving the award for D-Determination!

Our Valentine's Day party is coming up fast! We will celebrate on Thursday, February 12th at 1:30. If you are interested in helping with our party please email me and let me know!

Parent-Teacher conferences are back again! Conferences will be held after school Monday 2/9, Tuesday 2/10, and Wednesday 2/11.
