Week of September 16, 2013

We just finished our first full week of school!  Hooray!!

Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:

                                MATH
My math class is off to a wonderful start!  We just finished up chapter 1 and will begin chapter 2 (addition) on Monday.  Please keep an eye on your child's planner for upcoming test or CYP (check your progress) dates.

READING
This was a fun week of practicing some reading strategies.  We especially enjoyed using the visualizing strategy while reading Sideways Stories from Wayside School.  As we become more and more familiar with each strategy, we will begin using them simultaneously to become the best readers we can.  Next week, our focus will be on summarizing and retelling.

ENGLISH
We have not gotten into our English books yet, but will do so on Tuesday when we begin unit 1.  Some students will take a pretest to determine which lessons they may be excused from to work on enrichment material.  We are also going to begin doing DOL (daily oral language) regularly.

SPELLING
List 3 on short vowel words:
Monday:  Pretest  Homework:  cursive worksheet (everyone completes and turns in)
Tuesday:  Homework:  ABC order in spelling journal.  Challenge students choose one challenge activity to complete in their spelling journal.
Wednesday:  Homework:  10 sentences (using all 20 words) in spelling journal.  Challenge students choose another challenge activity to complete in their spelling journal.
Friday:  Final test

SCIENCE
We are going to continue chapter 4.

Have a wonderful weekend!
