Week of May 6, 2013

Hello parents and students!  We have a lot of learning to do this upcoming week!

Here is a quick message regarding a writing camp for girls over the summer:

The Girls Write! summer camps that used to be held at the now-closed Hinsdale Center for the Arts will now be held at the Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook. If you know any budding girl writers please help spread the word. Girls entering grades 4-5 will meet June 24-June 28, 9:30 am – noon and those entering grades 6-8 will meet July 15-July 19, 9:30 am – noon. For details, see:

Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:

MATH
Students will begin chapter 12 on dividing by 2-digit divisors this week.  There will be a CYP on Wednesday covering lessons 1-4.

SPELLING
We are going to look at some more commonly misspelled words and find tricks for remembering how to spell them correctly.  There will be no spelling homework this week.

ENGLISH
Our focus will still be on poetry with a vocabulary test on poetic terms on Friday, 5/10.

READING/SOCIAL STUDIES
Students will be practicing close reading within our small reading groups and we will be working extensively with our Egyptian vocabulary words.  The vocabulary test on these words is on Wednesday, 5/8.  We are going to learn about King Tut, pyramids, and mummification.

SCIENCE
We will still explore the tools scientists use throughout the week.

Have a great weekend!
