Week of October 29, 2012

To confirm, our Halloween Parade begins at 1:00.  (Students will change into their costumes at 12:45.)  Classroom parties begin at 1:30.
Conferences with my homeroom are next week.  If you have forgotten your time, please feel free to email me.

Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:

MATH
The chapter 3 test is on Tuesday, 10/30.
Students were given "squares" to practice for the timed test on Friday, 11/2.
Thursday, we will begin chapter 4 (multiplying by 1- and 2-digits).

READING
We will practice reading fluently as we engage in choral reading of fun Halloween poems.  Our class will continue identifying cause and effect using our IPICK books and our small reading group selections.  Another focus will be on using context clues to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words.

ENGLISH
Haunted House stories are due on Monday.  Students had a lot of class time to work on this project.  Before turning in, they must review their rubric to make sure they meet all the criteria listed.  Remember, they are trying to sell the haunted house to a movie director who is looking to film a scary movie.  On Thursday, we will begin nouns.

SPELLING
This week's list will be comprised of Halloween related words.  There will not be a pretest this week.  All students will complete a packet they will be given on Monday.  The due date is Wednesday, 10/31.  The final test is on Friday, 11/2.

SOCIAL STUDIES
Our study of Downers Grove continues.  The test is not until Friday, 11/9.  Students are highlighting facts they will need to know for the test in their Downers Grove packet.  In addition, a study guide will be handed out this week.

SCIENCE
We will continue discussing ecosystems this week.  We won't finish up with chapter 4 until Monday, 11/19 when we test.

Have a wonderful weekend!
