Week of September 17, 2012

It sure feels as though fall has officially begun!

A few reminders:  If you are able to contribute to our Johnny Appleseed celebration, your help would be appreciated!  One of our parents is graciously sending in bowls for our homemade applesauce - thank you!

Please check your child's planner daily to help them prioritize their homework time.
Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:

MATH
This week, our class will be making change, using a number line and rounding.  A check your progress (CYP) covering lessons 1-10 in chapter 1 is scheduled for Thursday, 9/20.  We will be starting our addition fact tests soon, so practicing those at home would be beneficial.

READING
We will be wrapping up our introduction of the reading strategies on Monday.  Students have note cards of each strategy with definitions in their binders.  They will be given a quiz covering these strategies on Wednesday, 9/19.  Reviewing those note cards will prepare them for the quiz.  Our class will also practice sequencing and summarizing using the story Lost and Found in our reading series.

ENGLISH
We are going to spend time getting acquainted with the predicate of a sentence now that we have the subject down.  Then we will begin reviewing for the unit 1 test scheduled for Tuesday, 9/25.
