A few reminders: Our class will be taking the READING MAP test on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
When sending an envelop to school, please indicate your child's name, grade, my name and what you are sending.
Also, please check your child's planner everyday this quarter. I'm seeing a lot of signatures - thank you!

Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:
MATH
I'm finally starting to get to know my math class - what a fantastic group! This week, there is no math on Wednesday due to MAP testing. On Tuesday, we will have a Check Your Progress (CYP) assessment on chapter 1, lessons 1,3 and 4. Then we will continue working in chapter 1 on place value.
READING
Our exploration of the strategies continues as we focus on making connections, questioning and summarizing this week. Students will find out an interesting way to summarize nonfiction text. Please make sure your child is reading nightly. I wish I had time in the schedule to allow independent reading throughout the day but our day is jam packed.
ENGLISH
We will continue working in unit 1 - the Sentence. There is a D.O.L. quiz on Thursday, 9/13. Your child has a study guide in their English folder in their binder. This quiz focuses on capitalizing beginning of sentences, adding punctuation to end of sentences, abbreviating days of the week correctly and capitalizing proper nouns.
SPELLING
Monday - list 3 pretest
Monday night homework - everyone completes cursive worksheet
Tuesday night homework - Challenge completes activity 1 of their choice in their spelling journal
Non-challenge completes ABC order in their spelling journal
Wednesday night homework - Challenge completes activity 2 of their choice in their spelling journal

SCIENCE
We will be working in chapter 9 on the weather cycle. On Friday, there will be an open book/open note graded review. We will take this review together so I can model how to use the book to find answers.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
