Week of April 20

Earth Day is on Wednesday.

We are starting Junior Achievement on Tuesday afternoon.  This program will last a total of 5 weeks.  Mr. Blocker has been teaching Jr. Achievement at Prairieview and surrounding districts for several years.  The students are sure to learn a lot about our local economy.

MATH
My class is starting perimeter this week with area following.  Do you know which facts your child still needs to pass?  If there are any questions, have your child let me know.

WIN GROUP
We have been having such great discussions and debates over the Newsweek articles we have been reading, we haven't had a chance to get to our literature circles.  This week, we will plan to work in our groups and finish up our books.

MY HOMEROOM
Students are taking the adjective/adverb test on Tuesday, 4/21.  Then we will begin our letter writing unit so we can write to our 2nd grade pen pals.  They will be visiting on Wed. June 3.

Spelling - List 24 contractions
Monday night - cursive worksheet
Tuesday night - ABC order or challenge activity
Wednesday night - 10 sentences or challenge activity
Friday - final test

Reading - we are incorporating much of what we are studying in Science (space) and Social Studies (chicago) into our reading block.  In addition, we are going to focus on fables and folktales.

Social Studies - Chicago quiz #2 is scheduled for Wednesday, 4/22

Science - we will be completing some projects in our space unit for you to see at Open House (which is Thursday, April 30).

Have a great week!
