Happy Labor Day! I hope you all enjoy the long weekend together! Remember: No School on Monday.
It was such a pleasure to see so many of you at Curriculum Night and have a chance to talk with many of you. If you have any questions throughout the year, please do not hesitate to email me. I'm very much looking forward to a great year with such a special group!
A few reminders: Please sign your child's planner daily.
Please label all envelopes sent in with your child's name, their grade, what is in the envelop, and my name.
Our class will be taking Math MAP tests on Wednesday, 9/5. Please make sure your child gets enough sleep on Tuesday.
Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:
MATH
I finally got to meet my math class today! I'm so excited to be able to work with such a talented group! This week, we will focus on chapter 1 - Place value. The concepts we will cover include thousands, millions, estimating, and comparing and ordering whole numbers. We will have a check your progress (CYP) assessment during the week of 9/10. Enjoy your long weekend!
SPELLING
This week, we will be taking a pretest on LESSON 2 on Tuesday. The cursive worksheet is homework on Tuesday. On Wednesday, depending on what group your child is in (challenge or non-challenge) the homework will either be 1 challenge activity or ABC order. The final test is on Friday.
SOCIAL STUDIES
We will continue learning about directions. A study guide is going home today (Friday). A directions quiz will be on Thursday 9/6. There will be a fun scavenger hunt to practice these skills on Wednesday.
SCIENCE
We will only get to minimal science lessons this week. We will start with chapter 9 on weather.
READING
Our introduction of the reading strategies will be our focus this week. Remember to have your child read each night for 20 minutes. I will be providing a recording sheet so your child could keep track of books and genres they have read. Our goal is to read 40 books this year.
ENGLISH
In unit 1, we focus on complete sentences; statements; questions; commands; and exclamations. A graded review of these topics will be on Friday, 9/7.
