Week of January 3, 2011

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I hope you all had a family, fun-filled, break! Hopefully, everyone returns to school recharged for the new year!

A huge THANK YOU from both Spike and I for such tremendous Christmas gifts!!!

If you look closely, you can see a picture of Spike's old cage inside of his new home! Mrs. Zimmerman creatively printed out this picture to show the difference in size! He is going to be so excited when he comes back from Winter Break to explore his new mansion. Thank you so much for all of your generous contributions allowing him to get a larger home.

Here is the upcoming week in a nutshell:

MATH

There will be a math fact test on 4's on Friday, January 7. I sent many students with practice sheets over break; hopefully, you found some time to work on these.

READING
We will start working on the strategy of monitoring and clarifying as we read the story Nights of the Pufflings. Throughout this story, we will also distinguish between fact and opinion. We will extend our strategy while working on a novel study. As always we will continue to use the strategies from previous weeks..

SPELLING

We are on list 12: words with the vowel sounds plus r. A pretest will be on Monday. Homework will be given Monday and due Friday. The final test will be on Friday

SCIENCE

We will begin the study of matter in chapter 11. We will begin by discussing the definition of matter. Then students will learn about the physical and chemical properties of matter.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will begin the study of chapter 3 titled People Move From Place to Place. Students will learn about different customs.

Thank you for reading my blog! Enjoy the rest of break and I'll see you soon!!
