Week of November 26, 2010

This past week, our class had the opportunity to go on the Downers Grove field trip. We had a gorgeous day and learned so much (myself included)! The chaperones made this field trip such a wonderful experience - thank you so much! Some parents also met us at Giordano's where we had lunch, which was very cool - thank you for stopping by!

Just a reminder that our local Jr. Girl Scout Troop 724 is collecting socks, gloves, hats and scarves for the DuPage County Shelter. There are collection boxes in each of the grade levels. The last day to bring in any items will be Monday, November 15, 2010. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Wiseman at chrisina.wiseman@comcast.net

Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:

MATH
Students should be practicing their addition and subtraction facts nightly. This is a skill they must have "down pat" before we begin multiplication. Our work with T-charts continues this week - students are really doing a great job with this very complex concept.
READING
We will continue to focus on our reading strategies as we apply them to our reading. We will focus on making inferences, summarizing, predicting, using background knowledge, and applying our knowledge about synonyms and antonyms. We will also continue to work on identifying character traits, setting, and problem/solution.
SPELLING
We will continue to focus on synonyms and antonyms and analogies this week. There will be a graded review on Friday.

ENGLISH

Students will begin writing a narrative paper.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will continue learning more about modern day Downers Grove.

SCIENCE

Our study of the moon's phases continues. We will be taking an open book quiz on chapter 10 lesson 2 on Friday, November 19.

Thank you! Have a great weekend!
