Reminder: No school on Tuesday, February 2 - Teacher Institute

MATH
Our class has been focusing on fractions. On Tuesday, January 26, we will have a quiz covering equivalent fractions and simplest form. For the remainder of the week, we will explore mixed numbers; compare and order fractions and mixed numbers; and relate fractions and decimals. As we continue to work through chapter 12, we will review regularly to prepare for the chapter 12 test scheduled for Monday, February 1.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Reminder: Bookmark 2 is due on Monday, February 1, to be completed on a book of your choice.
In English, we will review chapter 3 on verbs before our test on Tuesday, January 26. I recommend reviewing some of the lessons over the weekend. We will also focus on writing leads and endings in expository writing.
In spelling, lesson 16 focuses on the silent -h. The test will be on Thursday, January 28.
We will be busy in reading as we practice writing extended responses, continue our book club on Night of the Twister, and review inferences, generalizations, key points, fiction and nonfiction genres.
SOCIAL STUDIES
As we begin "The Road to War", chapter 8, students will be taking notes on key ideas in lesson one covering the trouble over taxes as colonists begin to protest against Britain. We will even hold a simulation of how the colonists felt during this tumultuous time.
SCIENCE
This Place is a Zoo projects are due on Monday, January 25. After our class has a poster walk to view all of the wonderful posters our class has made, we will begin our unit on weather. First, we will discuss and explore the uneven heating of the earth and then cover the atmosphere while demonstrating atmospheric pressure.
Have a wonderful week!!
