The class has decided on a name for our little dragon: Spike! If "it" turns out to be a girl, we have decided to call her Spikette. The picture shown is what Spike will look like in about 2 years. Fortunately, Spike's diet will consist mainly of veggies at that time - not dogs!
An update on our week:
Reading: We are continuing our study of Main Idea and of India. A final project in India will be due next week and I will give your child details on this as we get further along in our studies.
Spelling: The spelling words for this week are the names of the bones in a human body. Students are going to have a test on Friday in Science which will require them to label each bone in the body and spelling will count. We are "killing two birds with one stone" as the saying goes.
English: On Friday, the students will also be taking a test on Unit 1, which includes the 4 types of sentences, conjunctions, predicates, subjects, and run-ons. We will continue our preparations for this test all week.
Social Studies: We will be reading and taking notes on Jamestown and Plymouth. In addition, we will be doing some creative writing on Friday. At the end of Chapter 5, students will be creating a mini-book of the chapter which will assist them in studying for the test. I expect this test to be on or around October 10. Please remind your child that for subjects like Social Studies, it is important to review daily rather than waiting to study at the last minute.
My Math Group: We are continuing our timed tests on multiplication facts. Once students have finished all of the numbers, they will be challenged to take their tests in under 1 minute! This week, we are working on adding and subtracting mentally, inverse numbers and estimating. A quiz will be on Friday on Chapter 2 Lessons 2-5.
On Wednesday, we are having an Assembly. 'Kids on the Block' will be talking about Orthopedic Challenges with 5th grade.
Book Reports are due soon! Students have the option of turning them in on either Sept. 28 or Oct 1.
Have a great week!
