Week of November 11, 2013

Taking a moment to share my many thanks:
First, to all of the veterans; especially to those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
To Sofia's, Jenny's, Lukas', and Joshua's mom for a GREAT Halloween party.
To Hugo's dad for sending in pumpkins for our math project.
To Lukas' and Sydney's mom for coming to supervise the Downers Grove field trip.
And finally to everyone I had the opportunity to meet with during conference week.  I enjoyed the time I spent getting to know even more about your child.

Have you checked out www.Bookpig.com?  Sounds funny, but it is a great site for finding books your child will enjoy reading based on other books you indicate they have liked.

Here is our short week in a nutshell:

MATH
Students will be taking the chapter 4 test on Wednesday, 11/13.  We mapped out our study schedule so students could work each day for the last week or so preparing.

LANGUAGE ARTS
Throughout the week, small groups will identify cause and effect in their good-fit-books,
practicing the skills of a good reader, continue working with nouns and begin writing our turkey story. Students will be disguising a turkey who is going to convince us we don't want him for Thanksgiving.

SPELLING
List 10
Tuesday:  Cursive worksheet for all
Wednesday:  ABC Order -or- Challenge Activity
Thursday:  10 sentences using 20 words or Challenge Activity

SOCIAL STUDIES
We have the honor of Lukas' uncle coming in to talk with us about his job at the firehouse.  We will be continuing our discussion of community throughout the week.

We just began our unit on matter (chapter 11).
