Week of May 7, 2012

In honor of Arbor Day last Friday, our class set out to raise money to plant trees in the Amazon.  After much hard work, I am proud to announce we raised enough money to plant 60 trees!!!

Important dates to remember (now that I finally have my days straight):
* Culture Day presentations - Monday 5/7, Tuesday 5/8, or Wednesday 5/9.
* MAP math test - Monday 5/7

* Magic Show - Monday 5/14 @ 1:30.  If you haven't already, please let me know if you plan to attend.
* Early Dismissal - Friday 5/18

Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:

MATH
Students will take a divided by 6 test on Friday, 5/11.  The last day to take divided by 5 is on Wednesday, 5/9.  Divided by 4 is closed.  Currently, we are exploring division in chapter 23.  I expect the test to be the week of May 14.

READING
On Monday, students will pick the magic trick they will perform in front of a live audience on the 14th.  On Wednesday, there will be a vocabulary test on the magic words.  Because of this vocab test, students WILL NOT have a self-selected vocabulary this week.

SPELLING
There is no spelling this week due to all of our tests and presentations :)

ENGLISH
We are going to continue writing our expository papers.  There will be a pronoun pretest on Monday, 5/14.

SOCIAL STUDIES
Culture day presentations take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.  Originally, I had the chapter 3 test planned for Wednesday but am going to postpone it until Thursday, 5/10.

SCIENCE
We will explore sound in chapter 14 this week.  An open book graded review will be on Wednesday, 5/9.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your families!
