Hello parents of third graders! This week, we had the pleasure of "egging" Dr. Tiede. Our class wrote letters which included "egg" words, such as egg-cellent, egg-spert and egg-stra to egg-splain how much we are going to miss him as our Superintendent. The letters were priceless!
A few important dates:
Friday, 4/6 - NO SCHOOL
Thursday, 4/12 - Open House from 6:30 - 8:00. There will also be an ice cream social and book fair going on. Please also be sure to check out our Planet Walk which is a model of the distance between each planet and the sun.

Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:
MATH
We have already taken our divided by 2 tests. If your child has not passed this, their last chance to take the test is on Monday. We will be testing on divided by 3 on Friday, 4/13. During the upcoming week, our focus will be on topics in chapter 19 (decimals and fractions). The test for this chapter is scheduled for Tuesday, 4/17.
READING
Students will be tested on the four vocabulary words they have chosen from their good-fit-books on Tuesday, 4/10. The tests will be given in a verbal fashion which will truly test each student's understanding of the word they've chosen. Some questions I might ask include, "How could this word be used if you were grocery shopping? What is an antonym for this word? Use the word in a sentence with context clues to help me determine the meaning." I am hoping to start our poetry unit this week, as long as we can get through some of our Open House projects we are hoping to WOW you with.
ENGLISH
We are continuing Unit 5 on capitalization and punctuation this week, as well as, practicing our expository writing skills. The autobiographies we have been writing and editing will be up for Open House for you to enjoy. Your job is to decide which autobiography was written by your child. =)
SPELLING
This week, we will test on lesson 21 will be given on Friday, 4/13 when all of the homework is due.
SCIENCE
As we explore the planets in our solar system, students will be gathering information about each to display in a stand-up foldable project with a partner. One student will be responsible for the inner planets; the other, for the outer planets. The lesson 3 open book review is scheduled for Tuesday, 4/10.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Our class has been "hired" by a local travel agency in need of Chicago brochures. Each student will be designing a brochure which will attract visitors to Chicago. They are using their packets to choose topics to include in their brochure. Each page of the brochure will include two topics. The topics should each have 2-4 details written in complete sentences. Pictures could either be drawn or printed off the Internet. Class time will be provided, however, students who don't choose to use their time wisely will end up taking this project home to be finished. Brochures are due, without exception, on Thursday, 4/12.
Have a wonderful 3-day weekend with your family and if you celebrate, Happy Easter!
