Week of February 13, 2012



Our Valentine's Day party is on Tuesday, 2/14 at 1:30. Thanks to our party moms, it sounds like we are going to have a great time!!

Here is our upcoming week in a nutshell:


MATH

My class will explore symmetry, lines of symmetry, sides, flips and turns. These are lessons from chapter 15, which will be tested on Wednesday, 2/15. Then we will begin volume, perimeter and area.


READING

Much of our reading time will be spent reviewing and expanding on concepts we have discussed throughout the year. This includes root words, prefixes, suffixes, compound words and writing extended responses. I am so pleased with the progress our class is making with their writing.


ENGLISH

We will continue with adjectives and adverbs focusing on using a, an and the, comparing with adjectives and learning about adverbs. The adjective/adverb test is scheduled for Tuesday, 2/23. A DOL quiz on month abbreviations and commas in a series is on Friday.


SPELLING

There will not be a formal spelling lesson this week as we explore prefixes and suffixes. A test on prefixes will be on Friday.


SOCIAL STUDIES

We are continuing our study of Chicago. A study guide will go home soon because we are going to test within the next week or so on the first third of our Chicago books. All the information needed to study will be in students' Chicago packet.


SCIENCE

Our focus is on Social Studies this week.


P.E.

There is a floor hockey test on Thursday.


MUSIC
