Week of October 6

Dear Parents and students:

Here's the upcoming week in a nutshell:

Homeroom (Science and Social Studies)
Parents, I bet that if you asked your little politician what the electoral college is, they could answer you confidently after our simulation! They were able to vote on their favorite healthy snack and they compared popular votes to electoral votes. Animal Crackers took the cake (so to speak).
On Tuesday, the students will be tested on chapter 5 in Social Studies.
Language Arts Group
Reading - We will be developing story pyramids on a recent book the students have just finished independently and then sharing them with the class. We are continuing our focus on summarizing and finding the main idea/supporting details. There are a few students remaining who still need to take their 10 word vocabulary test for September.
Spelling - The lesson 6 pretest is on Monday, the homework is due on Thursday, the post-test is on Friday.
English - As we continue with chapter 5, we will begin our pen pal letters to practice our punctuation and letter writing skills.
Math Group
Our class worked so hard to memorize their math facts that they earned themselves a party!! On Wednesday, we will be enjoying treats while watching a Cyber Chase episode on dividing. Parents, we wouldn't mind at all if you wanted to send a treat in for us to enjoy :)
We began division, using the acronym Does McDonald's Sell CheeseBurgers Rare to help us remember all of the steps involved in these multi-step problems. Ask your mathematician to explain what each step means and have them show you to practice! A quiz is scheduled for Tuesday October 7 covering division and interpreting the remainder.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
Ms. Stetka
