Week of September 29

Dear Parents and Students:
The last magazine turn-in day is on Tuesday, September 30. Ms. Stetka's homeroom is currently in 6th place throughout the school.

Here is the upcoming week in a nutshell:

My Homeroom (Science and Social Studies)

We have had some very interesting conversations regarding the upcoming election. Our young politicians are very knowledgeable when it comes to the economy! Over the weekend, they will be completing a packet with the help of an adult on all of the 2008 Election issues. This packet is due on Tuesday, September 30. In addition, we will continue discussing the original 13 colonies. Students will either be creating a brochure or a mini-book including facts on these colonies.

My Math Group

Students must pass their math fact timed tests by Friday, October 3 in order to have a class party. This upcoming week, we will have a test on Chapter 2 on Tuesday. Then, we will begin estimating quotients and dividing by one-digit numbers in Chapter 3.

My Language Arts Group

Spelling - Lesson 5 pretest is Monday; all homework for the lesson is due Thursday; post-test is on Friday.

English - In Chapter 5, we will be using proper nouns and adjectives, commas in a series, interjections and abbreviations. I'm very excited about this chapter because at the end, as a culminating project, we are going to be writing our pen pals at Paul Revere Elementary School in Blue Island.

Reading - Our summary journals for Jacob's Rescue is due on Friday, October 3. Also, none of my students have signed up to present their book projects yet. Please remind your reader that they must have this project done by November 14.

I hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the weather while you can!

Ms. Stetka
