Week of October 22

Dear Parents:
On the upper right hand corner of this blog, I have added a couple of websites that I feel are very helpful to you and your children. Some students have even been using them to study for math quizzes. I will continue to add websites that I feel may be beneficial.

Please note that due to the Wellness Committee we are encouraging students to bring in non-edible or healthy treats (no candy) for the Halloween Party. Currently, the following parents signed up for Halloween Party duties:
Games and Activities (will attend party): Mrs. Vasic, Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Miller.
Snacks, Napkins and Plates (attendance not necessary): Mrs. Laviste and Mrs. Baer. Mrs. Allen has already provided the class with Taffy Apples - thank you!
Drinks and cups (attendance not necessary): Mrs. Joseph.

In store for us this week:

Spelling - lesson 7 on the soft and hard /g/. Workbook pages 32-35 are due on Thursday unless your child received a 100% on the pretest.

Social Studies - Chapter 6, lesson 2. Our focus is on cities, town and farms in the 13 colonies. Students will be designing signs for their "chosen colonial profession".

Science - continuing with teeth. We will be collecting data from other classrooms and creating graphs to represent the data.

English - Unit 2 test on Thursday. I have strongly encouraged the students to use the "extra practice pages" at the end of the unit to practice skills they will be tested on. The Chapter Review on pages 82-85 is due on Wednesday.

Reading - Bridge to Terabithia's first official Book Club meeting was today. Students are required to read up to page 47 by the end of the week.

My math group - we will be continuing with Chapter 3 on graphing. This week, we will focus on stem-and-leaf plots; range, mode and median. A quiz will be on Friday covering the second half of Chapter 3. Please review and sign the quizzes your children brought home on Monday. Signed quizzes are considered a homework assignment.

Two important notes went home today: One informational letter regarding staph infections and the other is on a field trip to the Naper Settlement. Permission slips and a total of $7.00 is due on Friday, November 2.

Our class appears to really struggle with organizing our binders. It would be very helpful if your child empties their binders on a daily basis to give you important notes. Weekly homework will still go home on Fridays, but there are some notes that need your attention prior to Friday.

Thank you for your continued support this year! This is a great group of students!
