Week of March 5, 2012

Hi parents and students! We have a very short week, but it's an important one!

There is No School on Monday, 3/5 or Friday, 3/9.

ISAT testing will begin on Wednesday, March
7th.

Here is some advice from Principal Schultz:
Parents can play an important role in getting students ready for these tests. Here are suggestions
on how parents can help their children prepare for the ISATs:
1. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before the tests
2. Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast the days of the test
3. Let your child know that he or she should take the test seriously and do his or her best
4. Talk to your child about what to do while taking the test, including:
a. Paying attention to direction
b. Asking questions about directions if they are unclear
c.Reading each question carefully
d. Eliminating wrong answers right away, concentrating on remaining choices
e. Double checking answers

The ISAT schedule will be as follows:
Wednesday, March 7th - Math Test I and Reading Test I
Thursday, March 8th - Reading Test II
Tuesday, March 13th - Math Test II
Wednesday, March 14th - Reading Test III
Thursday, March 15th - Math Test III

There will not be school on Monday, March 5th due to Casimir Pulaski Day and on
Friday, March 9th due to conferences. There will be conferences on Tuesday, March 6th and
Wednesday, March 7th.

Science: We will continue learning about the Earth's seasons in Chapter 10.

Social Studies: We will continue to study Chicago.

Spelling: We will not have spelling this week due to the shorten week and ISAT testing.

Reading: We will continue reviewing all reading strategies and completing extended responses.

English: This week we will work on writing from a different point of view. Students will
write about how the Chicago Fire started from the O'Leary cow's point of
view.

Math: We will review different concepts we have learned this year.
